Contemplations

Seems like this has been the busiest year of my life, in every area. My slideshow I added has the WIP of Autumn's Glory Days. I am finally getting to work on it again and hoping to have it finished for our quilt show here in southeast Kansas. Some things have been added, some things removed. I am 3/4 of the way through the threadpainting of this quilt.
Right now it is at the stage when I am not happy with it. It always seems to be so lacking when part of the threadwork is done and part hasn't begun. Plus the minor distortions during this time are maddening. I am using a midrange tonal value for most of this landscape because of the time of year I am trying to interpret.
I do so love autumn with all its colors and feeling of change. I hope my quilt will convey those feelings to people who see it. I am personally in such a state of change myself and vacillating on what direction I want to move in.
My one constant is my quilting and wanting to produce more work. I seem to be in a growth spurt and I find it exciting and sometimes disconcerting. Happy quilting!

Am I Too Old To Recycle

My grandson calls me the "Old Hippie." Don't know why he calls me that but there it is. Taking the nickname to heart, I have been trying to reduce, reuse, recycle lately.

Being a quilter, I have been really working on saving interesting bits of cotton clothing from ending up in landfills. Odd bits and pieces make up into eyecatching quilts. A friend gave me cotton samples for furniture that are beautiful and I am saving those to use too. I am adding up quite a stash!

Our guild has a challenge this year to repurpose something and enter it into the quilt show.
I have two cotton kimonos and one silk one bought while living in Hawaii. I don't wear them, though one was useful as wall art for awhile. So in the spirit of the challenge, I have cut them apart and I am reassembling them into a quilt. It's great fun and quite exciting to watch something useless be transformed into something useful once again.

I have begun to wonder if I am too old to recycle. I am a little worse for wear but surely I could be repurposed. Am I too old to be recycled? Instead of being the "Old Hippie," I could be the "New What?" Happy Quilting!
